Miracle reminds us how grim it was back in the 80’s, (Gas shortages. Carter’s ”malaise” speech. The Soviet invasion of Afghanistan. The Iranian hostage crisis) and what a boost the Olympic victory was to our collective morale. . How does this game signify the political atmoshpere at the time of the 1980 Olympic games and what does it say about the future of America?
The hockey game and cold war were actually quite similar. You may not see it at first but with all the tension between the two countries there were also tension between the two teams. During the cold war it didn’t look like america was going to take victory and in the end they pulled it off. Likewise with the USA hockey team nobody believed in them… They were going up against the soviet team who at the time was the best team in the world. USA pulled it off and beat them. Just like in the cold war.
The Cold War was very harsh on everyone involved. America was just coming back from a huge war and the tension between the Soviet Union and the United States was horrible. America would do little things that the Soviet Union would do opposite. It seemed that the U.S. would fail at everything that the Soviet Union could do. The Cold War did have good effects on the world, like the Space Race. We probably wouldn’t have gone to the moon if it had not have been because of the Cold War. Everyone was also terrified that there would be a huge nuclear war, because of the threat of bombs. Though this was a war, it wasn’t a normal war. No bombs exploded and the Soviet Union and the United States didn’t fight like they usually did. They fought with politics.
What i know about the cold was is that it was fought between the united states and the soviet in 1950’s through the 1980’s. the cold was wasn’t actually fought with weapons but mostly words and just bettering each other on building weapons and trying to get other counties to be an allies with them, such as countries like Vietnam, north and south Korea, nicaragua, Germany, and east Berlin. At a time the united states were thought to be failing but then they came back to be victorious. At the time there was a U.S. spy plane that was spying on the soviets over russia and it was shot down and we got in trouble.
what i know about the cold war is that the soviet union and the u.s. were not in actual war but they were in a staring down war and the soviets pulled ahead on the cold war because of lack of gas and stuff and everyone doubted the u.s but then we beat the soviets hockey team and they thought they would win! never doubt the u.s we ball and never fall
I think it says that secretly our country is great. We win when it’s most important.
The Cold War was a 30 year old war and each president carried it on. I’m glad i wasn’t alive, it probably wouldn’t of been very nice to go through.
I wasn’t here for most of what was taught about the Cold War, so i’m not sure of what to say. But a war is a war. The war was a relation between the U.S. and the USSR after WWII. Neither side fought the other. One of the causes of the Cold War was the American fear of communist attack and Russia’s fear of the American’s atomic bomb.
The cold war was a silent war. The u.s. were the underdogs. They silenced the Soviets. Just like the olympics with the hockey teams, the USA vs. SOVIETS, the USA won. The people of Afghanistan took American military men hostage for 444 days. When Ronald Regan became president, he sent navy seals to rescue the American military from Afgranistan. That is some of the things that happened during the Cold War.
The cold war was a silent war. USA and the Soviet Union would do anything but war. Soviet Union was supposed to be the USA hockey team. USA did beat the Soviets. That shows that USA can out last the Soviets.
USA WON THE HOCKEY GAME AGAINST THE SOVIET TEAM (something like that)
It was truly a miracle that the United States hockey team beat the U.S.S.R.’s team. Not only did this turn into a political move, but it also turned into a morale boost for downhearted Americans.
The Cold War continued to cause fear in the minds of humans all across the world. In 1980, the United States of America backed out of the Olympics simply because it was held in Moscow. In 1984, the Olympics were back on. So was the Cold War. Yet, during this brief period of time, during the Olympics, both countries drew a “cease-fire” as they both entered into the Olympics.
At the time (in 1984) the Soviet Union (or Russia) dominated the ice rink. Their hockey team was undefeatable. The United States showed no chance of even competing with them.
As the Olympics continued, the U.S. continued to wow the audience. Win after win showed the capability these young college students had. Finally, it was the final championship. The countries competing were the United States and the Soviet Union. This was a standstill moment in history.
The outcome also changed history. The United States won. It seemed impossible, but it was utterly believable. From this outcome, Americans gained the faith that they could actually overcome the Cold War. It boosted the American morale, and it helped the United States draw a detente with the U.S.S.R. This ended the Cold War, and the Soviet union fell apart into several different and independent nations.
Miracle is the story of a miracle that was never deemed possible, but had an everlasting effect.
The Cold War was after World War II. This was when the U.S. and Soviet Union (USSR) were fighting without fires shot. It was Capitalism vs. Communist. There were many conflicts in Southeast Asia, like the Vietnam War. This was when Vietnamese Nationalist Ho Chi Minh led Vietcong to take over all of Vietnam. The U.S. supported South Vietnam and the Soviet Union supported Ho Chi Minh and the communists. This war was fought to stop the spread of Communism into other countries in Southeast Asia. In Cambodia, a group named Khmer Rouge took over Cambodia. In Miracle, the Russia team is the best hockey team. No one can beat them, then the U.S. faces them in the Olympics and ends up beating them. This is also like the Cold War because the Soviet Union eventually collapsed to the U.S.
The cold war was between the Soviets and the U.S. And the Soviets pulled ahead at one point. US had lack of resources such as gasoline. The movie relates to the cold war because the Soviets had the best hockey team, and we couldn’t beat them. Until USA got a new coach, and had an amazing team. And we ended up pulling it off. In the Cold War there wasn’t actually a war, it was a matter of who ended up with the most weapons.
The U.S hockey team couldn’t beat the Soviet Union For 10 year but they believe that they could beat the Soviet Union in the game. Like in the war they were still fighting for other countries to not be conummist. Afghanistan wanted to be conummist but the U.S didn’t want them to be conummist.
The Cold War was a time when the U.S. and the Soviet Union were at war but they never actually fired at each other. Instead they were competing to find out who could get the most weapons the quickest. some of the actual wars that happened during the Cold War were the Korean war and the Vietnamese war. The Korean war was between North Korea and South Korea. North Korea wanted to force South Korea into communism. With the help of China and the Soviet union they almost succeeded in their goal. South Korea did not want to be communist though. With the help of the U.S. and Great Britain south Korea defeated north Korea and are still today, a free country.
We beat the soviets hockey team, they always win and never fall !!
The Soviet Union created the Eastern Bloc with the eastern European countries it occupied, annexing some as Soviet Socialist Republics and maintaining others as satellite states, some of which were later consolidated as the Warsaw Pac.
in the movie we won and upset the soviets when they were the ones that were suppose to win because they were the number one hockey team just like in the cold war the soviets were suppose to win because they had everything it took to win but the u.s. won the war and upset them.
in the cold war the soviets were beating america in everything they launched a satellite into space before the u.s. did. the u.s. sent in a spy plane to spy on the soviets but the soviets shot it down the driver was suppose to kill himself but he didn’t the cold war went on for about 35 years then the u.s. finally won it.
By winning the olympics,we showed the Soviets that we could win. The soviets had the greatest hockey team on the earth at that time. They couldn’t be beat. But the U.S.A overcame the soviets and beat them. Showing them, and the rest of the world that they were strong and wouldn’t be pushed around.
Some of the cause of the cold war were. President truman disliked Stalin, and Russia’s fear of America’s atomic bomb. The Soviets beat the U.S in the race to launch first satteliate in space. They launched one before us, Name Sputnik. After World War 2. The relationship between the U.S and the soviets grew weary. The U.S didn’t trust the soviets. so the U.S decided to send a spy plane to spy on the Soviets. May 1, 1960,The U-2 spy plane was shot down by the Soviets. The Captain was supposed to commit suicide before being captured but did not. He was interrogated and gave up vital information to the Soviets.
The soviet army was also very strong they had troops in many countries, some were Bulgaria, germany and hungary.
In the late 70s, the Soviets had been dominating in everything from sports to space exploration. It seemed impossible for anyone to defeat them. The same went for the Cold War. North Korea, Afghanistan, Cambodia, Cuba; victory after victory for the communist Soviets caused the remaining countries to lose hope. Communism was beginning to encompass the entire world. In the movie Miracle, the coach took a non-traditional approach to create his team. He watched how the Soviet team played, and learned from their tactics. By observing them, he was able to see how best to defeat them. He knew that the U.S. team couldn’t win on talent alone. They had to work harder than they’d ever worked before. They had to become united as a family, and they had to trust. The same went for the United States. To defeat the Soviets, the U.S. would have to be creative in their tactics. They had to work hard, and learn from Soviet tactics. They had to reach out to other countries and form alliances. They had to leave old rivalries in the past. By taking the Soviets on in Hockey, they gave hope for the Cold War.
The cold war was the least violent war because there were no shots fired. it was mostly an arms race and a space race.
The Cold War began in 1941 was the continuous state of the political tension, weapon tension existing after WW II. In the movie the Miracle it captures a time where things could be settled in sports and the Cold War could be settled on ice. The U.S. olympic hockey team practiced harder than they ever had to beat the Soviet Union. This signified the political atmosphere to a tee. It showed how much tension there was between the Soviets and the U.S. The team rose to the occasion and showed just how great the U.S. was and is.
The movie miracle shows that our hockey team won against the soviets. Which made there team extremely upset. It also showed the drive in our Country of how far we are willing to go to make it to the top. The cold war had started in many countries for example The Cold War had started in Germany shortly after World War II. Germany had a division in April 1945.
The hockey game was like the cold war because the Soviets thought they were winning because they had a better team.
It proves the future of america that the Soviets arent unbeatable and that america can beat them.
The soviets like beat the americans at almost everything from the first thing in space and hockey.
and finally the Americans beat the soviets
The hockey game and cold war were actually quite similar. In the late 70s, the Soviets had been dominating in everything. The Cold War began in 1941 was the continuous state of the political tension, weapon tension existing after WW II. Soviets thought they were winning because they had a better team. THe movie was an interesting one!! It showed how the U.S.A beat the U.S.S.R! The first game they played the U.S.A lost the score was 10 to 3!! but with alot of hardwork and heart and dedication, and motivation they were able to achieve beating the U.S.S.R! This movie was very similiar to the cold war because it showed how the Soviets were beating everyone and everything but the U.S.A ended it by winning!!
USA beat the Soviet team just like they did in the cold war even though the USA came close to losing they fight hard till the end and beat the Soviets when the soviets are undefeated and keep getting the gold. even though the soviets look bigger and strong we have a better team.
Miracle the movie, is compared to the time back when the cold war was going on. The USA hockey team never had beaten a team as good as the soviets, just like in the war the soviets were the ones that were expected to win over the US, but the US pulled through. just like in the hockey game the US thought they had no chance against a team this good, but with there intense training they won against the soviets and the soviets were really surprised and thought that no one could have ever done it. but thats where they were wrong the US hockey team won the gold at the lake placid olympics, just like the US beat the soviets in the cold war. you could tell the war was going on through the movie beacause there was a lot of riots about the war, and the news on the TV was never good. I think that it says that America is a more united country than back in the war days in the 80’s. We know today that wars like that don’t need to fought.
In the movie Miracle, it shows a war being fought between the United States and the Soviet Union. Both on and off the ice. We were in a “silent war” with the Soviets and it seemed like we were the underdogs. In the Winter Olympics, the Soviets were dominating and they seemed stronger in that way too. The USA olympic hockey team went into the games as a new group of college students, underdogs. They beat the Soviets. I think that it was more then just a hockey game. It showed how the “underdogs” came from behind and were able to defeat one of the most powerful nations in the world…just like in the Cold War.
Well it wasn’t actually a war, even though their were conflicts between the U.S. and Soviet Union’s allies like Vietnam and Korea, but it was more of a race or competition between the two countries on who had better technology and who could be the first at whatever it was they were trying to do. The movie also showed that even the best in the world will eventually fall to the underdogs of whatever sport or event, like the Winter Olympics hockey game. It also showed that if you believe you can pull it off, then it’s a good possibility you can do it.
Miracle was a movie that took place during the cold war. basically it was the communist versus the capitalist in a non-lethal war, a contest to see who had the better technology and the smartest brains. The movie Miracle was based on the 13th Annual Olympic Winter Games the U.S were the underdogs because they had a team of a bunch of college students who either didn’t know each other a lot or very little against teams of people who had been playing together for like 6 years, the best in the olympics was the Soviet Union (or U.S.S.R) and many people had the bet on them because they were ahead in the war. Miracle showed the hard training that the U.S coach gave the team and the bonding that went through them following the Miracle of winning the Olympics against the Soviets which led to the believers and great victories of the U.S (this is kinda off this whole subject and completely irrelavent but i just want everyone to know that on Tuesday night a new episode of Deadliest Warrior will be on the two teams this time will be the Nazi Waffen SS V.S the Vietcong it’s gonna be awesome).
the cold war is like the war on ice called hockey because if you dont push yourself you wont get anywhere. if you pay close attention to whos court the ball is in you can have a huge advantage.
The cold war really divided the hockey team up at first because some of the players were on different sides. They were similar because the Soviet army and the Soviet team were tough and wanted to beat the U.S. In the end, of the movie, the U.S. finally beat the Soviets and won the Olympics. It was a great movie. The U.S. an Soviet Union hockey game was really intense!!
What i know about the cold was that it was fought between the united states and the soviet in 1950s through the 1980s. the cold was wasnt actually fought with weapons but mostly words. By winning the olympics,we showed the Soviets that we could win. The soviets had the greatest hockey team on the earth at that time. i thought the movie was pretty cool i wouldn mind watching it again but thats what i learned.
The cold war was bettween russia and america, it was more of a (who can do this first) thing. They had the space race, olympics, ect.
the cold war was faught between the U.S. and the soviets in the mid 19’s. when we won the hockey olympics against the soviets it gave us some confidence that we could win the most imcredible hockey team back then. and this moovie showed us how U.S. hockey team trained and worked hard to win the soviets. i really enjoyed this movie because it wasnt so much all about the history it just had good moral to it and it was really interesting to watch. i wouldnt mind watching it again.
This game was like a mini cold war that helped the U.S. win the cold war. This was a great movie and explaines the story very well. I found it very interesting and liked it very much and would watch it again.
In the movie it shows a war being fought between the United States and the Soviet Union. The hockey game relates to the cold war because the soviet union in the movie think they have a better team but they really don’t the U.S wins them because unlike them they have motivations & they got a new coach after 35 years. Another thing was that the U.S really didn’t give up we kept fighting until we won the war. This movie also showed how much tension there was between the Soviets and the U.S.
I really liked it mostly when they fought [:
The cold war was fought by the same countries that battled off for the olympic cup in hockey. The United States of America and the Soviets played off in the finals, the U.S was the under dog in the movie because they were a younger and inexperienced team. The U.S was also the under dog because of the size of the soviets army. In both the hockey game and the Cold War USA takes the victory. The movie was a great comparison to the real war.
in the cold war every body didnt want to fight because we had just gotten out of war so rather than fight fight with weapons america and russia fought technologically and the physicallity of our athletes in the olympics. We got slaughtered in the hockey game but in a sense getting slaughtered in a game rather than on the war front is a lot better the political standpoint was America wanted to kick russias butt without taking or sacrificing the lives of men i think the future for america is going to get more advanced because we still dont like russia but we coexist with them in a peaceful like manner.
miricle was an awsome movie!! it took place around the same time as the cole war.. the hocky game and the cold war were similar to eachother. everyone thought that the U.S.A was going to loose but we came back and whooped some butt!!
The cold war was very harsh on everyone. The U.S. was just recovering from the other war (WWII?). Everyone thought that the U.S would loose just like when the hockey team was playing. Since the soviet union had the best hockey team at that time. Everything was so intense, the U.S. was scared of the communist attack. But like in the hockey game they recover and beat the Soviet Union. No one could believe it, but it was true. Once again the U.S. showed that they were undefeatable. They beat the soviet union just like they have beat anyone else in this world.
the cold war wasnt really a war fought between usa and the soviets, they used theyre allies to fight it. and in the Olympics of 1980 the usa hocky team had to go against the near invisible soviet team. all odds were against the usa team but just like the cold war usa gave it all they had and came out on top proving our dominance to the world once again.
The hockey play offs represent the Cold War in this movie. It shows how, we were thought to be the less likely to win against the soviets, but in the end, won both. The Cold War wasn’t fought on a battle front. Instead, it was fought through achievements; by seeing who could be the first to send a man to the moon, etc.
everybody thought that the soviet union was going to win the hockey match because they are good. just like in real life, the soviet union had more resources so everybody though they were going to win the cold war. in both cases the U.S. beat the soviet union because they tried harder and wouldn’t give up.
the fact that the russians and americans were the best teams on earth at hockey just shows how bad the cold war really was. it was just hockey, but they couldn’t let the other country one up them on anything, the same thing with the space race, when you think of technologic country’s now you think of like china or japan not russia, but it was the russians that were racing us to the moon not china or japan, they just couldn’t let us have anything or do anything better than them, and america was the exact same way towards russia.
the cold war was faught between the U.S. and the soviets. when we won the hockey olympics against the soviets it gave us some confidence that we could win the most imcredible hockey team back in the days.in the movie it showed us how U.S. hockey team trained and worked hard to learn how to win against the soviets. i liked the movie because it had a great story line and hockey is cool i guess i would never watch it again but yeah.
It was called the Cold War but wasnt actualy a war, but more of who could be the best, the strongest, and the most powerfull Country. The miracle on ice the 1980 hockey team was a bunch of kids going up against a team of veterans who were the best in the world from Russia. They were huge underdogs and nobody in the world thought that they could win. The U.S. hockey team beat the Russians and went on to win the gold medal. This gave hope to all Americans in a time when they needed it most.
