Answer both questions 1 & 2 using your book chpt. 7, google searches, and our worksheets from class.
1. Would you have been an imperialist or anti-imperialist?
Suppose you are an American citizen at the turn of the century, fresh off the Spanish-American war. Support your stance by arguing about the advantages/disadvantages of acquiring new lands. Keep in mind America’s future as a world power and the consequences of land acquisition.
2. Is America still an imperialist power?
Think of the United States role in the world today. In what ways (economically, socially, politically, militarily, etc.) America is or is not an imperial power.
1. I would have been with the imperialist’s because if we had taken control of the other countries it would have not only helped us by providing more land but the countries that would have been added would already have a strong nation that they could more heavily rely on because it was already founded and they would not have to work to start their economy and all of the other things involved with building a country.
2. No because we are working for freedom for other countries.
1. I would have been an anti-imperialist. Although gaining new lands is kind of beneficial, but it make the U.S. look like a tyrant. Just because it can, it shouldn’t take over lands and govern them how they see fit. They have their right of freedom, just like we have ours.
2. I’d say no, because the U.S. is trying to get freedom for other countries such as Iraq. The U.S. is economically superior over many countries so they’re doing the right thing by helping other countries.
1. In my opinion, anti-imperialism really is better, since it promotes equality and independence. Unfortunately, good values doesn’t rule the world. This world is survival of the fittest, and practicing imperialism will give us more ability to operate as a world power. If we give them power, it sets more competition against us. If we don’t, they will most likely revolt and refuse, but we can still hold power by granting small amounts of power through treaties until we have what we want.
2. America still is an imperialist power. This is the idea of Desert Storm and the War against Terrorism. We go in with an agenda and take over as the dominant power within their state and use them for our own wants until they revolt… and give them slight power within their own government.
1. I would have been anti-imperialist because its very hypocritical of the american government to fight so hard for our own freedom and be so emotionally dedicated to becoming are own nation, then to turn around and not give that freedom we desired so bad to other countries that are controled by others.
2 America is still a imperialist power, we still have control of other countries for are own intrest. We also are taking control of countries that want there political freedom but we still hold on to them to help them establish ther goverment supposedly or to build Americas economics.
1. i think that i would have been an imperialist because in order to be a stronger country we need to be big if other countries that are small and weak don’t do anything to help them self’s well we might as well make a good use of them.
2. i think america is still a imperialist because america seems to always ask for more. have more money, to be smarter, to be the strongest then the other countries they show off by conquring the weakest smallest countries.
1. I would be an anti-imperialist because I don’t believe that all countries, nations, or weaker organizations should be run by the more powerful ones in the world. It doesn’t make any sense to have things be that way. First of all if everything was run by the most powerful countries in the world would invade the culture of the other places that it was in control of and without culture a country or nation or even a state can lose it’s identity as a whole. Everyone and everything would be the same no matter where you went and then there would be no adventure out there. The only thing you would be able to discover is that imperialism is a stupid idea.
2. I do believe that the U.S. is still an imperialist power because we are always trying to get new territory because we are a power hungry country. We always want to take our time to influence other countries into becoming part of what we believe and what our country stands for instead of bettering their country the way they want it to be. When we go into a country, for war or whatever the reason may be, we leave an impression of a new kind; we give them new ideas that we would like to force onto them and possibly even trick them into becoming part of our nation or part of our imperialist powers. It’s ridiculous.
I would say that i am anti-imperialist because i believe that everyone should have their own freedom and not have to be controlled and told what to do by another nation. I think that most countries might need help setting a goverment up or getting started and after they are set up to where they can run their country without any problems then we should just back out and not take over.
I would have to say that America is an anti- imperialist because when we move our troops into other countries we are trying to set their goverment up so they can run their own country and get used to a goverment instead of a monarchy.
I think i would have been an imperialist. The country is thriving looking for the new best thing and what greater than to expand an empire. We had established ourselves as a world power and we were kind of flexing our muscles through this era. I’m all about having a lot of land and a lot of resources and imperialism gives me just that. American’s tend to want more than the next guy and that’s what makes us so powerful. The more we have, the less others have, which, in turn, gives us the upper hand in future wars and makes it possible to maintain the dominant power we have. In today’s world i believe that America is still somewhat imperialistic, not completely. Just by the nature of our country we are, sort of, born with imperialistic views. We went into Afghanistan after 9-11 and the first thing we did was seize control of the oil companies. We have plenty of oil in Alaska, but who wants to use our oil when we can go take another countries? Why not go into Afghanistan and take control of the military bases? We were in need of oil and so we got the oil. I’m no expert, but that sounds like imperialism to me. America could completely take control of weaker countries but we don’t. We are not completely imperialistic like i said, but we still have imperialistic views.
1. I would have been anti-imperialist because we can’t just deprive people of their freedom or independence. America is a free country, why can’t we grant these little countries with that same freedom. The Land of the freedom takers? That doesn’t sound so good to me.
2. The U.S. is still an imperialist country in my opinion because we control so many countries. Like Iraq for instance, we have troops over there so we can control and keep those people in line. They don’t really have freedom over there. Also the U.S. doesn’t support other countries like they should.
I would have been an anti-imperialist.
If we were to obtain more land, it’d just cost more money in the long run. We’d have to pay to make the land we bought more resourceful, and all that money could be used towards something much more useful–like protecting our country.
I think on some levels, America is still an imperialistic country. Mainly because we influence a lot of other countries. And with Iraq, how we’ve gone in and helped them, we are slowly gaining control of them–so that’s a way that we have domination over a weaker state.
i would have been an imperialist because i think you have to take what you gotta take… cant just sit around and expect everything to be all cool.. gotta take action and do what ya gotta do.. we had to take other peoples land because it was for our benefit and helped our country.. people living in hawaii arent complaining about being a U.S. citizen so whats the problem???
i dont think so because we are fighting for other countries freedom like iraq..
1. I would have been an Anti-Imperialist. Acquiring more land is, of course, an example of power. You would be able to make more money, be it because people are buying land from you, or you are building factories to make things to sell. In the long run, though, it would end up costing you more money. If the resources on your land were running out, or you are losing space, you would have to use a lot more money in order to keep things in shape.
2. I don’t believe America is still in Imperialist power. Although we go into countries, and stay there unnecessarily, we are going there to help them, not take control of their country. We have tried to take control of inferior countries in the past, but I don’t believe we are like that any longer.
1. I would rather be an anti-imperialist. I believe that every country has its own rights to be independent. I don’t see any advantages in taking a country’s independence. They need to strive to be their own country. It’s like taking someones pride away. If someone tried to take over everything, it would be like Hitler and this world wouldn’t be very successful. I think its possible to work out treaties and do trades. That way every country is its own but they still have connections to other countries. Every country adds a little to this world.
2. In most ways, I believe that America is still an imperialist power. America went into Iraq and tried to take over the country with our advanced weapons. Socially, Hollywood sets examples to the world to live by the American way of life. Everybody wants to live the high life and many people from other countries come here to get that. America has many advances in technology that other countries are intimidated by. America isn’t the most powerful though but overall its imperial power influences many other countries.
kay take that back hawaii might be complaining but their still using the benefits that being a U.S. citizen gives them so that is hypocritical
1. I think I would’ve been an anti-imperialist because I do not like change, whether it be good or bad. I like staying where I think is comfortable. I also can’t stand war. What is the use. America always ends up in a messy war when they really aren’t needed and it’s not necessary.
I do think that change is good, but sometimes America goes a little too far. I think that expanding the country was a good idea, but i don’t know if it were really necessary.
2. I think that America is still an imperialist country. It sucks other countries dry of their natural resources and it also tries to impose it’s ideas on other countries (like telling them how to run their country and telling them how to live the American life). Is that really necessary? Then America wonders why other countries don’t like America too much.
1. I would have been imperialist because I believe in survival of the fittest. The power houses of the world have all the power to do pretty much what ever they want. When the U.S. wanted to trade with Japan but Japan wouldn’t trade with them, the U.S. simply sent some ships into the Tokyo Bay and said were going to trade with you or else. If a nation works hard to become powerful and become economically stable I think they should have the right to work with the other nations. Making trades isn’t a bad thing. Everyone should be able to trade with everyone. If an inferior nation was being bothered by a superior nation to trade their resources then the inferior nation should raise the prices and bam! 200% prophet. Everyones happy.
2. America is still an imperialist power. We are a very wealthy country with the strongest military in the world. We pretty much do what we want whenever we want, and no other country really has the power to over-throw or stop us. We also have a high population. Power comes with numbers.
1.I would be an imperialist just to have advantages just to have new lands.
2. in some way yeah, economically socially, politically, and etc. america has a lot of imperial power, i read that America has been in empire since 1803 so really it has been imperial for a while.
1. I am an imperialist in some ways but in other ways I am anti-imperialist. I think that if other countries need help then they should get the help they need but if that means taking away peoples rights I don’t think that is okay. When you take over a weaker country by force it takes away the freedom and the rights people have.
2. Personally I think that yes America is an imperialist country. They aren’t so much anymore, but they still think they can do whatever they want and expect the country there taking over to go along with it.
I would have to say that i would choose to be an anti-imperialist. I chose this because imperialism is hostile to liberty and tends toward militarism. We don’t have the right to imperialize other countries, everyone has the right to have an independent country.
2. I think that in some ways America is still an Imperial power. America still sometimes thinks that we can control smaller, weaker countries.
1. Would you have been an imperial or anti-imperialist?
A. I would have to choose Imperialist because they have a strong nation with economic and political powers over the weaker ones. We also have our power that goes into the seas for more material and resources that we may use or sell for more Industrialized buildings we could build.
2. Is america still an Imperialist power?
a. yes they are because they still have power over Guam and is still taking more and more cities making them stronger and stronger each one they take over.
1. I think in this situation i would be an imperialist because we would be able to help out the other lands that are in need of help. It works both ways, America would have more land and those suffering lands would not go without.
2. I think that the United States is still an imperialist power because in a talk given by Debbie johnson it is said that the united states in pushing there imperialist ways on Africa since Africa is abundant with diamonds and minerals ect.
1. I think i am mostly anti-imperialist. This is because i dont think its right to take over another country. However if your taking them over to help them out its okay. But to take a country over just to take them over is pretty messed up. Plus i dont think its our responsibility to take care of them. If they ask for help then yeah lets help them out but other than that i think they can take care of themselves.
2. I think that America is imperialist. I think this because we take over a lot of countries that are weaker than us. Most of the time its to help that country but they dont always want our help. The United states also thinks that if other country’s arent like us than they are wrong and that we should “help” them out by changing their ways. By taking control of other country’s we think that is improving our own. Most country’s we take over are for our benefit somehow too.
1. I think I would probably be an imperialist, because they are dominant, and take control of the smaller weaker nation, and I wouldn’t want to be the smaller nation getting taken over. As an imperialist I would be able to takeover others people resources and stuff like that.
2. I think America right now can be considered Imperialist be cause we get a lot of our resources from other countries, and they make a lot of our toys and clothes and stuff.
IMPERIALISM: THE ACTIONS USED BY ONE NATION TO EXERCISE POLITICAL OR ECONOMIC CONTROL OVER A SMALLER OR WEAKER NATION.
1. THATS MESSED UP. BUT I DO NOT BELIEVE IN IMPERIALISM BECAUSE I THINK THAT AMERICA IS TRYNA BULLY AROUND LITTLE COUNTRIES AND FORCE THEM TO CHANGE WHO THEY ARE AND THEIR CULTURE. SUCH AS QUEEN LILIOUKALANI. WHY PUSH AROUND THE QUEEN COME PUSH AROUND THE KING OF TONGA. ANYWAYS HOWEVER IN A WAY IT’S GOOD BECAUSE THEY BRING THINGS FROM AMERICA TO THESE LIL COUNTRIES AND MORE OPPORTUNITIES. BUT STILL THOUGH THATS MESSED UP IN A WAY.
1. I would be a anti-imperlalist because i think that it is not right for a bigger country to take over smaller and weaker ones. Some of the bigger countries take over the smaller ones because they can or they want their resources its economy needs.
2. I think they are because they are going into more and more cities and helping them become stronger.
1) i’m going to say that i am on the fence on this matter. in one way imperialism is a good thing because it helps when a country is over-populated and they have a place where people have a place to go so it’s not so crowded. however i’m anti when it comes to how we obtain the land. because us as the US decide that what we want we can just take by any possible means (usually by force) if we simply came to a deal and solved it diplomatically then it would be much simpler and much less casualties. if we didn’t take the land by force i would definitely be pro-imperialism.
2) in my opinion, america tries to hide it’s imperialism. with the war in Iraq they say they’re looking for nuclear weapons and to restore the government there and they may be doing that, so that we can eventually take over that country for ourselves.
1) I would have been an Anti-imperialist. Though many of the countries and natural resources were necessary in advancing and securing America’s economy, it is hypocritical and against what the U.S stands for to enslave people and strip them of freedom and resources. Also all races are equal in intelligence and no race has evolved beyond another.
2)I think America is still a kinda imperial power. The war on Iraq is an example on how we invaded a country to remove a dictator we put in power and then made them sell us oil for less. But the war on Terrorism shows how we are fighting for global peace.
1). I’m pro and anti imperialist. To have more land we would have a new resources more experience and we would have more fear in the lands of our true enemies. Yet if I were in a situation where the U.S. gov helped with a war that my people and I would just be killed originally, I would let the U.s. take control of the small yet significant land.
2). I think America has traits of both. We dont have total freedom I think. We founded this land and have to pay for it. We the people can be taken from a higher source for no reasoning. We the people are being tricked our self. Shame on us for continuing to be tricked. We are our own faults.
1. I probably would’ve been an imperialist, mainly because we have so many other countries helping us when we get in sticky situation and we return the favor by helping those countries. example: the Haiti Earthquake.
2. i don’t think so. I mean technically we don’t really “own” any other country in any way, we just help them as states and allied countries.
1.) I would have been an anti-imperialist because everyone needs there own land and its wrong for people to take that away from them. I don’t believe in taking things from people, its just wrong.
2.) I believe that sometimes america does. We don’t really have the right to do everything. We got this land and had to fight for it.
1. I would definitely be anti-imperialist because I don’t believe that weaker countries should be run by the strong countries just because they can’t support their own. If everything was run by one country, that country would over power everyone else and then their culture would be brought into everything and it would be as if the entire world was one country. Some countries don’t have the same kind of resources as others do, therefore they can’t always have the greatest economy and that then makes them a weaker country. And I do not think it is right for more powerful countries just to take over because they have more resources.
2. I believe the U.S. is still an imperialist power because we are always trying to get as much land as we can. We love to have power. And one way to get power is to get as much land as we can. We go to war basically just to show the other countries what we have, and what they could have. Then they go off and try to gain more power like us. We don’t have all the freedom we should.
1. I think i would be an imperialist. I don’t think that the country should be ran without any power or anything like that. Our country would be very different if it was like that.
2. I do think America is imperialist in power. We have a lot of economic problems and we are always trying to get more in our country. We never stop at just one thing we keep going with power and economics and things like that. I think that imperialist helps the people here. It keeps our country strict and people won’t get too crazy. We don’t want anyone to take over our country.
2. American McGee’s Alice. Know it, reSEARCH IT, PLAY IT.
3. Im not serious so why so srys?
4. I hate imperialism I’m anti-imperialist. America should not expand we don’t need land.
1) Some of us are both, we either need land or we will eventually get it. Us Americans have depended on the the third world countries for the longest time, we will not be able to live with out them. When our oil supply runs out, who do we go looking for? We look at the ones we are at war with. Well not them directly but their country. We ourselves have been trying to get to become independent, but we are still getting the help from the counties that we don’t like as much.
2) We are not trying to get our land or anything from others but we are still in debt and we are trying to get out of it all and we are still depending on others. America is a imperialist power.
1. I would support Imperialism. This would allow the smaller countries to depend on the rest of the country for supplies. While acquiring new land means more people and possibly higher demand on decreasing supplies of food, it also provides new workers to supply that food.
2. No, because America only has power over itself and not others.
I would be a imperialist because i would be hella Gangster like Truc and Jennifer :] jk!
I would be Anti-Imperialist because I don’t think anyone has the right to take away freedom or life from anyone. I feel like freedom is a privilege that people abuse and should realize that freedom isnt entirely free it is you get more freedom than other people and should use that opportunity to do good.
We are somewhat an imperialist counrty still but we do have more freedom than other countries. We need to realize how important it is to have as little freedom we have.
1. i would be both an imperialist and anti imperialist just cause if we took over all the countries maybe they wouldn’t be suffering with poverty because they would have a lifestyle like americans. i am an anti imperialist because every country should be unique, thats why we have different cultures all around the world and thats what makes it interesting. so i guess you can say that i don’t really have a side. because there are pros to each one.
2.I think that America is still imperialized. even though we have our own land and a big portion of the world we are going into other countries and putting some of our cultures into it and that isn’t necessarily imperialism but its pretty dang close.
1. I am Pro imperialist if we could take over smaller countries to help out economic expansion of the U.S. Why not? We would probably make them a state so it wouldn’t be a total takeover and making a country into a state for economic reasons seems like a good deal to me.
2. Well, looking at Hawaii and Puerto Rico I would say Yes. But other then those two places we haven’t really expanded in the last 50+ years so I would have to say No on the subject.
1. I think I am both imperialist and anti-imperialist. Imperialism is good because it gives one country the opportunity to expand and better it’s conditions. But it is also bad because once you have spread out and “expanded” you don’t have the culture of the previous people to look back on. And not everyone wants to do things your way. People are unique and when their way of life is disturbed they usually aren’t very happy.
2. America is imperialistic. If another country is in need, say we’ll help them out, then force what we think into their heads. We force American culture on them until they have no choice but to comply. It’s pretty stupid. We have our traditions and other countries have theirs and we have to say in what they choose to do.
{more of an in-depth answer to question number one:} what I meant by we help other countries like Haiti and their devastating earthquake, is we bring these other 3rd world countries many of the necessities that they need like; technology, education, jobs, money, government, helping them rebuild the lives, and homes, businessess etc. that they lost in a natural disaster or in a war.
1. I would have been an anti-imperialist. Yeah it’s great to have a lot of power, land, and resources but it makes our country and our people look bad. It would make it so we wouldn’t have to be the country that has to give supplies to the smaller countries. If we have freedom in our country, why shouldn’t everybody else have freedom in theirs? Exactly, they should. One country should not rule the entire world.
2. I do not think that America is an imperialist power today. We’re not trying to gain power over the entire world. We help countries fight for freedom. We aren’t looking to take them over. We do say that we want to be the best. But that doesn’t mean that we’re going to have power over other countries. We’re free and other countries should be too.
1. I would have been an anti- imperialist because more land and natural resources would be nice but at what cost are we paying for them. In order to get those things you have to take some else land and their freedom. And to me that cost is just too much.
2. I don’t think that America is an imperialist power today because we are working towards freeing other countries and making everyone around us equal just like we were made.
1. I would have to say that i would have been anti-imperialist because if i was living in a different country i wouldn’t want another one to come in and take and change everything that my country is and has been.
2. in a way i think that the U.S. is imperialist because it is always taking over other countries. Also because we aren’t entirely free like they say we are, we are free in some ways but not in every way.
1. Would I rather be Imperialist or Anti-Imperialist?
A.)I think i would rather be an Imperialist over an Anti-Imperialist because imperialists had all of the power. They knew they were strong, so they would go and take over other country’s and try to give them a better future.
2. Is America still an Imperial Power?
B.)I think yes. We still have the power to go to other countries and try and help them out. They may not even want it, but we still do it because it is what we think is right.
1. i would be imperialist to leave other people alone.
2. i think America is still. Because American soldier were fighting Iraq not for just the American people. They were fighting for other too, like oil or something.
I would not be an imperialist, just because other countries deserve to rule themselves and have their own power. No country deserves to have their power taken away, because the country with the greater amount of power could easily go crazy and take away the smaller country’s rights and freedom.
In a sense we still are an imperialist nation, but it just depends on how you look at it. Sometimes we try to help nations gain their independence, but usually it’s only to give them a democracy.
1. I think i am pro Imperialist because it would be easier to give help to other countries. It seems like being an Imperialist would make it easier to communicate and make more money to help people. Being imperialist would be easier to keep organized.
2. I think it still is but it isn’t. America gets alot of imports from other countries that we depend on. We also do not have complete freedom, but we have alot of rights that other countries. In america owning property is a must so it makes us imperialist.
1-I would be anti-imerpialist. I don’t believe weaker coutries should be taken over by the dominate countries. All the dominate countries really have to do is help out the weaker ones. Dominate countries are just taking more than they need to survive. Besides some countries start out weak and over time become strong. We just need to give weak countries time to figure things out. America wasn’t perfect at first and we still aren’t but I’m glad we still have the chance to improve.
2- I think America is imperialist. I mean look at what we’ve done in Iraq. We basically force them to sell their resources (oil) for less than they’re worth. That’s taking advantage of a country weaker than ours. We take over countries and get their resources for cheap. I don’t think that’s right at all. Although, some could argue we invaded Iraq only to help them. In my opinion, it was mostly just to get their resources for less.
1.)Anti-imperialism promotes independence and equality, the very thing we first set out to fight for. Unfortunately, a strong and progressive country can’t stand on its own without the help and recrution from weaker ones. In order to substain a wealthy nation, both economically and politicaly, we need the resources and materials provided by the smaller ones. Imperialism brings together the power for one nation to rely on another in times of war and hardship.
2.) I think America is an imperialist power because we hold Puerto Rico as part of our nation for the sole purpose of their resources. We however, have never really made it offical that they are one of us. I think that America is an imperialist power, just not one that is up to the point to domination.
1). I would most likely have been an Imperialist, so many other countries besides the u.s help us a lot in the kind of situation where we are stuck in. Of course we kindly return the help once everything is back up in place.. Like Amanda said that tragedy of the Haiti Earthquake. so many lives at stake an yet still have not been found. so sad. todays nation is so caught up in how the world revolves around wars.
2). in a way we are, examples are of course the troops in iraq, (army), navy, air force etc..
1. I believe I would have been Anti-Imperialist. I feel it is very hypocritical to destroy the freedom of others after we had to fight so hard for our freedom as Americans not long ago. America is the land of the free, we should be helping others acquire freedom, not taking it away.
2. I think America is still an Imperialist power. We “help” a lot of countries, sometimes forcefully, Imposing our ideals, values, on countries that may not want the help that we give.
I would have been anti imperialist. The United States of America has already dominated from coast to coast. There is plenty of wealth to go around for those of us already living in North America. Imperialism is selfish. It is the destroying of another culture, another lively hood, it is the taking away of someone else’s freedom, the ruining of future generations. Our country is founded on the principles that we are all created equal, that we have inalienable rights such as life and liberty. Imperialism makes us all hypocrites.
In my opinion the United States is an imperialist power pretending not to be. For example the war in Iraq, we invaded to remove a leader we put in power then required them to sell their oil to us for less. Which is such an imperialist move, invading someone to obtain a resource. However we do fight for freedom and try to help third word countries develope a stable government. The United States is a melting pot of cultures, as well as political philosophies. Which is a good thing, I suppose.
1) I think I would be an Anti imperialist. I believe its wrong for the larger countries to dominate over the smaller ones. If we deprive other countries of their freedom, we are doing exactly what america fought so hard to get away from. If all men are created equal, then what right does one human being have to restrict the rights of another human being.
2) I think right now I would say yes, America is still mostly imperialist because we get many of our resources from other countries such as China.
1.i would imperialist. i would be imperialist so and there is to be economic is ware we go and use my resources that we use when we go to war is some what that we are a strong nation how can we when people are ding and it helps out countries that need the most help
2. all the countries have all different power and we have are own freedom and we had to use are powers to get are own freedom so i think that it is good to be imperilist
1) I am in between. Imperialism is good and bad. A strong nation taking over weaker ones is not right. Everyone wants their own rights and freedom, not to be controlled by a stronger nation. Imperialism can be good, because imperialism gives weaker nations the advantage of partnership in times of war.
2) I think American is still an imperialist. The truth of the matter is, we are clearly proving we are imperialist because we are fighting iraq to obtain their natural resource, oil.
i would be on the imperialist side because i was born in America. Longhurst told me to look up anti-imperialism in tonga or something like that and as i scanned through the article, it talked about a riot that had happened there and how Tonga and other countries were in a riot about something. The riot was about the market and the money they were not receiving. America would be able to bring entertainment to Tonga because when i was in Tonga. The Citizens or whatever mostly looked up to Americans. They would ask if I ever met this Celebrity and how they wish to live in America. I have chosen to be an imperialist when it comes to America.
1). If I were to have lived during the time of the turn of the century, I would have to be for Imperialism. The United States is a nation that has grown and should continue to grow. By doing so our country will have the land and natural elements needed to survive if we are to be cut off from countries we depend upon. We will become an independent country that will not have to give millions of dollars to other countries for resources that are essential to our society.
2). Yes, America still is an imperialist power. We have Army, Navy, Air-Force, and other Military camps and forts in countries all around the world. We have influence on every country whether or not we have Military bases located within their borders. Through political and environmental power that our nation has, almost every country depends on what we contribute to to the world. We keep a close watch on other countries just how they watch us.
i would be an anti-imperialist. because the u.s is always talking about how freedom is such a good thing and that they want freedom and it would be dumb if they take over some other country because they wouldn’t want some one to take control of them.
2..I think that America is still an imperialist country but are just trying to deny the fact that we are because we are constantly trying to get land from other countries and act like we can do whatever we want, because we have enough power to.
I’m kind of on the fence on this one, I’m for imperialism when it takes away no liberty and promotes freedom. Take Puerto Rico for example, the are a territory of the U.S and it’s a mutual relationship. They are on a small island that has limited resources, we provide a lot resources to Puerto rico and also a booming tourism business. They provide a harbor for a our ships and sugar cane, it’s a great and healthy relationship. However if it creates fighting or taking away others liberty, that can’t be good.
I think America is imperialist but we’re just trying to bring the greater good, which is democracy and freedom. We may be taking it away right now but it’ll all workout i guess and we’re americans we only respect ourselves.
1) If i have to choose one i would be an Imperialist because of the power and because its more dominant than other smaller nations so i would be able to take control easily.
2) I think that America is a imperialist because as far as i know because we have our Army in Iraq and we are invading so yeah i think that America still today is Imperialist.
1. I would have been an Imperialist, because we will have more resources. And having more resources makes us a strong country and we also have the opportunity to trade with the countries that we have control over. We also have control of a lot of land and we can use that land to expand new businesses.
2. I think that America is still an imperialist power, because we helped Iraq rebuild their government? And we get a lot of our resources from other countries
1. i think i would rather be an imperialist because if the U.S owned more places those places would have more freedom. they would have all the rights that we do right now.
2. i think that america is still an imperialist because we are always looking for a way to get bigger and strongger.
1. I would have been and anti-imperialist, even though it is necessary for us to have world power and control, it is wrong to take peoples freedom away. Imagine if you were in a small country and a bigger nation came in to take over and enslave you.
2. We definitely are still an imperialist nation. We went into Iraq for a couple of reasons, some good, some bad. But we still invade nations so that we can have control over them. That way we know what they are up too, and we get our opinion known when it comes to matters with them and other countries.
1. I am anti-imperialism because i think that countries should run themselves and not be taken over so they can make there own decisions and if they need help and its reasonable then they could ask the U.S. for help.
2. I think America is still Imperialists because even though we have troops in iraq its not helping because it seems to be making the situation worse because now that were trying to send more troops they could take it as a challenge and could possibly start another world war
I think i would have been an imperialist. our country is always trying to make our country bigger and better. I’m basically all for having a lot of land and a lot of resources and i get all of that from imperialism. American’s tend to want more than the all the other guys and that’s what helps makes us so powerful. In today’s world i think that America is still somewhat imperialistic, not completely. americans are sort of, born with imperialistic views. America could completely take control of weaker countries but we don’t. We are not completely imperialistic, just kind of.
1)I think I would be anti-imperialist because even though it’s good to gain other countries and more land, we would also have to back them up if they got into trouble or went into war with another country. I think it’s better to just let them have their independence and be done with them.
2)I don’t think we are imperialistic because we haven’t taken over any countries. We have just helped countries that are in need. Like Iraq, we aren’t going to take them over, we are just helping them to be free and set up their own government.
1. i think i am anti imperialist because i would like to help countries out instead of letting them fall. And all the other countries deserve to rule themselves and have their own power. Because no country should have to have their land taken away from and ruled by someone else that they don’t know and that might not like it just takes away the purpose of being free and having a free country.
2.i don’t think it is because we don’t take other countries land. The only thing that we do is have thing imported from other countries but we usually give things back in return or pay them for what they have given America.
1. i would have chosen to be imperialist. I think with the U.S. taking over countries it helped benefit us. it helped us gain supplies that we needed to move on and expand. it helps build our country up and make it larger and stronger then others. it gave us more chances to trade and save money and time.
2. Yes because we still want to take from others to help us become better whether it hurts them or not. We have slowed down a little with taking fro others cause we are in so much debt i think but i don’t think it has stopped yet.
1. i would say that I am anti imperialist because the u.s stands for freedom we should not even think about being imperialist cause it goes against what we stand for and it is just wrong and that we should not even do it at all.
2. yes i think that america is still imperialist if you don’t think so just look what we do back east in Iraq we have made them imperialist thats why i think we are still imperialist.
1. I’m pretty sure I would be an Anti-Imperialist because every country should have their own independence and I just don’t think we have the right to take it away from them
2. I think that we are still an imperialist country because we have tried to take over other countries and help them out and it seems like we always want power
1 Yes i am pro imperialism. I think its a good think that we’re taking over smaller, and weaker countries. If they’re not strong enough to fight for themselves then the shouldn’t be a country anyway. And we could use the money anyway cause Obama is screwing us all over.
2 And i say no we’re not imperialistic anymore because we haven’t really taken over countries like we used to.
I would be a imperialist because it gets us more things that we need. It might start off looking really rough but in the end I think we help them some what. We provide them with transportation, health care, educations, etc. So in the end we do more good then bad. And it helps are government overall.
In my opinion America is still a imperialist country because we still put are nose in other countries business. Are intentions are good overall so we still do the same things we did with the land we won from Spain.
1. I think that I would have been an anti-imperialist because imperialism is essentially bullying. It may make make America stronger, but America is strong enough as it is.I don’t think we should take away a country’s power just because we have more. I also don’t believe in pushing our beliefs and way of life on other countries. They have their own culture, and they have the right to maintain it.
2. Yes due to the situation in Iraq. We’re over there trying to push our way of thinking on their society while they clearly don’t want us there. Even though they don’t want us there, we’re still staying and trying to maintain “control”. One of the main soldier bases are stationed right on top of their holy ground. If thats not bullying, I don’t know what is.
Personally I disagree with imperialism. I don’t see why America has to conquer land that they don’t really need. America land wise is still a big country and we don’t really need little islands. I do think that trade is important but we don’t need to conquer a land to trade. A lot of the islands that we took had lots of sugar plantations and we don’t really need all that much sugar. Today in society we are so used to sugar in our food that we probably couldn’t live without but it’s certainly not helping us physically. Imperialism is hurting the weaker countries culture. All these islands have such a unique history and they deserve to be remembered. We don’t want our culture destroyed so why should we wish that on another country?
I think today America is still an imperialism country. We are a strong nation and I guess that makes some believe that we need to prove it to everyone and monopolize every single resource. I agree that we do need some resources but we don’t need to go and trade with every single country in the world to get something. I think that countries should have their own freedom and liberties. I like that we go and help other countries with their problems but sometimes it’s unnecessary and there are bigger problems that we need to care of.
Ok me being a such a loving person id say i’am for sure Anti-imperialist. Why? its easy i think people should have the right or al least some say in what your country does. Controlling other countries physically and economicly for the benefit of our country does not stand well with me. Just because you are a bigger country and have the power to do something to another country does not make that morally right. Other countries have human beings to. they have just as much right to rule heir own country like we do. Helping nations is one thing but than to bully it by taking it over is just way out of line. America is still an imperial power because look what happend to iraq. W e practically control what they do and where they go. We watch them all the time suspecting that they will attack. U.S has to straighten out there priorities straight because if not we just look ike an imperial country.
1..I am PRO imperpialism, We have the right to take over any country we want. we are the biggest and the baddest country. We deserve more land if we want it! And we need to Rule everyone! If i was the emperor of the U.S. i would take over the world…
2.. And the U.S. is not really anymore. The U.S. is becoming weak. We neeed to start Showing that we are the Main poewr in the world again like we use to be!!
I would have been an imperialist. America was a growing country and saw opportunities to keep progressing. What is wrong with that? Every country has the right to grow as strong as possible. America got what we wanted and helped out the countries in return by improving their economy, their technology and so much more.
I think america is still very much imperialistic. We invade countries to get more resources (oil) and try to help them with their government. Even though we try to help other countries, I think sometimes we take advantage of the fact that we have so much power over them. But if you have the power to be the best, why not be?
1. I would be a imperialist because, i do believe in survival of the fittest. i think that if we wouldn’t have taken over some of the things that we did; we would not have the resources that we have today. Our country would not get the respect and fear that it has now and it shows that we are dominant over the rest.
2. In my opinion, America is still an imperialists country, because we still go to other countries and take over there sources. Like we send troops over to Iraq to take over and keep them in line also we took over there oil plantations. So yes i think we still are.
1. We just fought to save cuba from the spanish, and than we decided to take them. Cuba is ours. Our investment is safe and i can have sweet foods with metal utinsals. But i wonder, is it right? we took an opressed people, only to do to them what the spanish did. People died, and we have more money. It is blood money, what happened was not right. imperialism is a promise of vialance and war, wealth and power, a show of status as a nation. Just because it is popular does not mean it is right.
2. Yes, we are still imperalistic and obcesed with power and money. most of our common products are from sweat shops in other nations. the war we are in now in part began because our oil supply was threatened. No matter the name of the act, the act is wrong and it is called imperialism
1 My opinion i would be a imperialist because i would like more land and power. I would like to me in charge.
2 i think that america is pro imperialist because they are still fighting a war that has no end in sight. they say that there going to start bringing back the troops but they just keep sending more and more.
1. I would be an anti-imperialist. I think it’s great if you have a lot of power, land and resources, but when you just take over someone else’s land or country it makes us look bad because we seem greedy. We seem greedy because it’s as if we are only thinking of ourselves and not what the other countries want or need, just what we want or need. It is great if you want to expand your country, but we should do it in a better manner.
2. I think America is still an imperialist country. We are always invading countries to get resources that we need and are always trying to improve their government the way we think it should be. We take advantage of how we help other countries.
1. Imperialism is the most sensible and progressive way to go. With the acquisition of new lands and the expansion of power, the U.S. can better succeed economically and socially in the international community. By spreading its jurisdiction, the U.S. will save and liberate oppressed people who would otherwise fall into the evil grasp of less scrupulous leaders.
Poor standardization and mistranslation have plagued the world from the divergence of cultures. Many mistakes and inefficiencies would be solved by large scale U.S. imperialization.
2. The U.S. is still an imperialistic nation. The U.S. owns plenty of lands and war bases across the world, and it commonly involves itself with the affairs of other countries.
1. I honestly cant decide. I more moved by Anti-imperialism first, because i don’t think a country like the United States should be allowed to go up against a country like Haiti, with complete poverty, just because its weaker. Then again, we’ve had to stop countries for being too powerful, like the Japanese– or even more currently like Afghanistan and Iraq. So i’ guess mostly Anti-Imperialism, but in some cases it’s okay to be Imperialistic.
2. I’d say yes we are still an Imperialist country. We are always trying to “help” other countries, but when we do, we are constantly influencing their culture with ours, like America is sooo great. But the truth is, we’re the country most in debt, because we don’t have what t takes to supply the country with everything it needs to survive, thats why we always import. Now we’re even trying to help our Middle Eastern countries to set up a government pretty close to ours.
1.I would choose imperialism, because if we get more land we could get a lot more things, like we could make the nation bigger also we could get a lot of money by taking over other countries.
2.I say no, because America is working for freedom and not for slavery.
1) i would choose imperialism because it would give us more land and what not..
2) no, because we’re a free country.
1. I would probably be imperialist because it would be good for the smaller weaker countries to depend on the bigger stronger ones for help when they need it. Bigger countries would also need to get help from smaller countries at times too.
2. I think that America is an imperialist country because if we want something we get it one way or another. If another country wanted something we had, they would not just take it and give us half price on it like we would.
I think that the only time that we should have control over another country is if they are a threat, ask us for it, or if they have fallen and we can rise them back up. It is the same as saying that your neighbor just minding their own business and you walk over there kill some of their family and take over their household. No you don’t do that! But it is also good for some countries to have another over their control. Imperialism has its advantages and its disadvantages but overall it depends on the countries that are in place.
i think imperialism is a good thing, in a way all of the countries that are accomodated with imperialism can gain something from it. for example, when we went into japan, we impressed them with our technology and so they agreed to trade with us. they got what they wanted and so did we. The way things are today we will not have enough resources, so with this we can gain more resources and be able to get more land at the same time. America can become a even more powerful country than it is now.
2.Yes we are an imperial country because we are very strong and we can conquer just about anything we try to do. we are helping countries to become better, but we are not working under any other countries control.
1. i think i would be imperialist it gives the u.s. to expand. it also helps people who need it and without are help they would probably fail so we need to help each other.
2. i think so that is kind of what we are doing in iraq. trying to make them do things like us. and dont we get resources from other countries, yes.
1. In my opinion i would be an imperialist because i think it is good to get other things we need from other countries because a lot of things are stuff we need that we don’t have that they have so i think it is okay to get things from other places and get things back in return what’s is wrong with sharing ha you know how they say sharing is caring :]
2. I would have to say yes because we are trying to “help” other countries like iraq…:p
1. If I were an American citizen in that time period I would have been an imperialist; however I say this in earnest. I think that it is alright to help other countries in exchange for resources or other needs, but the problem is that we take advantage of imperialism. Some countries that have risen up because of the US’s imperialistic views have gained freedom but have been stripped of sovereignty over their main resources. I think imperialism should only be practiced to an extent that portrays more of a helping hand then an iron fist.
2. I firmly believe that the US is still an imperialistic society but like I said above we only practice it to a certain extent thanks to Woodrow Wilson’s views on peace among nations. Now we are simply there in times of crisis.
1. I have to say anti-imperialism. I’m not a fan of other people having to support me, taking care of my needs, or trying to help me out. If I needed help, I’d ask. But I don’t think that we need to just decided, “Oh, yeah. That country is definitely screwed, we better rescue their third-world ass.” Maybe they can fend for themselves? The U.S. is kind of just a bunch of pushy bastards at times. (: I’d like to give the other countries their own chance and watch out for our own shit.
2. America is totally a bunch o’ imperialists. We say we’re “helping” other countries, but I think it’s still for our own good. Oh, but what’s new?
1) I’m for anti-imerperialism! Every culture is different and we should keep it that way! Everyone got along just fine in the olden days when they didn’t even know other countries existed, so why should it be any different now. If we need to steal other countries’ natural resources because we are wasting all ours then maybe we should learn from the other countries because they’re apparently doing something right and we’re not.
2) America is still an imperialistic country. We still get too involved with other contries.
1 – I disagree with imperialism, i like the whole idea of being a small county we dont need any more dumb people in this county. i like were we stand now because we have power and ether countys know that, i think the only time we should take them over is if they try to mess with us, ether than that im good on imperialism.
2- yes we are very much still imperialism, with are countys state of mind we need to be the biggest the besttest over anyone else, and are county shows that really well i dont think we are done growing and improving and wont stop tell we get i all and stand on top.
1. I would have to say that I am pro imperialism. To keep our country thriving i believe that we need to take control and stay strong. And it’s not like we’re taking over the country and kicking the citizens out of their homeland. For example when the U.S. helped out the Phillipines. We helped them with education and health care and transportation. Having those things makes life easier and imperialism is a good thing.
2. I don’t really think that we are an imperialistic country anymore. Back in the day, we used to have wars and treaties and such and those kinds of things aren’t really going on anymore.
America is still absolutely an Imperialist power! We will take over any country that we can if we have to! We try to help other countries but honestly how can we help them if we can’t help ourselves! We try to do the best but all we do is hurt really. We want everyone else to be like us but when the want the same thing we wont. Power has influenced the us completely in every way! So yes we are Imperialist power!
p.s. Excuse my language. (:
1. I’m a selfish gal, I’d be an imperialist. Being the selfish teenager I am, taking to improve sounds good. how horrible am I? ha! I like how everyone who claims pro imperialism, sound like douche bags. I’m just bein honest. I’m selfish, I don’t have much, surprise.
2. Is America still an imperialist power?
We as America are definitely still an imperialist power. Tell me what we’re doing right now. TELL ME.
Hey Aubrilynn, come save my third world ass!
1] it depends to me, if a country is struggling to keep it head out of water, then i believe imperialism could be the best way to get a country on track. i don’t believe we should do it for there resources because if we keep doing that we dont become more efficent, if we run out of resource we have to find better more efficent ways of improving.
2] well i believe we still kind of try, i believe iraq is kind of an imperialistic war, because of there gasoline
“and Dick Cheney, you leech, tell them your plans
About building your pipelines through Afghanistan” – immortal technique[=
1. I think I would be an anti-imperialism, because every country should have their own rights and independence and we should not have the right to take it away from them.
2. No, because America only have power for itself and not others.
i ment oil!
1= I would be a pro- imperialist. Without any imperialism America would not be where it is today. With imperialism America has more power and more land because of it. We needed imperialism to grow and progress and thats what America was and is all about.
2= America is pro- imperialism because we own a lot of land and I believe that we are still expanding as a country. In 50 years I think that America will still be an imperialistic country looking for new ways to grow.
1. I would probably be an imperialist because i believe that the countries that push forward and take over resources and land get the furthest. If the U.S. didn’t take all the things we did we wouldn’t have the respect and power we do now.
2. In my opinion we are still an Imperialist country because we still go into other countries and take their resources. Like how we send troops to iraq to take over.
Imperialism: The economic and political domination of a strong nation over weaker ones.
I am more towards Imperialism. We should not govern a foreign place without the consent of its people. However, this should only apply to those who are actually capable of self-government. Ex. William Taft tried to win over the Filipinos during the Philippine-American War by improving education, transportation, and health care. Railroads and bridges were built, public schools were set up to slowly reduce Filipino hostility. All of these reforms ultimately helped the Philippines.
America is still an imperialist power. I mean, look at the ongoing war in Afghanistan and Iraq. We were in need of more oil, and not only took iit, but basically took control of the whole country… That reminds me a lot of Imperialism.
1. I think i would have been anti-imperialist because i don’t believe it’s right to take over other countries that are smaller and weaker, and that don’t have a chance against the country that’s taking over.
2. i would say no because the U.S only tries to help out other countries, not try to take them over.
1. I am anti-imperialism becuase i think countrie should have the freedom to control themselves and not control by us. and if they need help then they could ask us
2. We still fighting a war in Iraq and i think the we shouldn’t be doing that.its still imperiaslistic I think this war in Iraq has to end.
1) I would say that I am a very imperialistic person, undoubtedly the cream will rise to the top, in every society this is proven. It even happens with simple things such as cow milk. I Have seen no society with out some type of an upper party. As soon as you have a strong upper party they look to become stronger and take over other weaker places.
2)America is a very imperialistic society, we own other places and tel them how to act, we have a big military and we use it to imperialize other places in the world.
1) Definately imperialist it offers advantages to everyone. If we had let japan and china just continue being reclusive they’d both be even worse off than they are like africa bad. Japan advanced entirely quickly after we intervened even surpassing us in some ways. We bring things required for basic survival and in return they give us things that are useless to them anyway. With the Philippines we built schools and provided much needed healthcare.
2) no we have given all countries independence or made them a territory and they seem content with that most jobs in puerto rico are provided by the government. they have a sweet deal if you ask me.
1.) I would be anti-imperialist because i think we should have control of r own lives.
2.) well kind of it all depends on how you look at it becase you still cant get merried if your guy or lesbian in some states, or have the right to wire what you want in some states or some other stuff that i cant think of right now. but on the other hand we are anti-imerialist to cause we have so much freedom too so i guse it is the way u see it.
I would have to say anti imperialism, or at least for the most part. we shouldn’t be taking over countries or trying to rule them. but if they decide they want to trade, or need our help and want to ask for it. that would be a different story.
i think America is still very imperialistic because we still try to get everything for ourselves even if we don’t need it, and were always “helping”.
1. I would have been an anti imperialist because the america already has enough power as it is, sometimes we just dont thikn we need to help people. Because what if they dont want our help.
We should give it when asked to do so.
2. America is still so imperialistic, still going into other coutries and thinking we need to fix everything.
1)i think i would of been imperialist because america was trying to expand. this was a good thing because we had so many countries trying to immagrate to the U.S.A that more land would seem appropriate to me. its not like we were killing inoccent people to get the land.
2)personally i think we are still imperialist but for the wrong reasons. we (instead of helping)are trying to push our ways of government on countries that want nothing to do with us. we are always talking about becoming bigger and better but haven’t stopped to see our own people suffering for that mistake.
1. ????????? I’m not really sure. I don’t know if I would have had an opinion either way. Human beings tend to not worry about what doesn’t affect us directly. A failing economy is a “recession” when others start losing their jobs. Once YOUR job gets canned, then it’s a “depression”. When terrorist crash a plan into the WTC, we immediately demand that we seek out those responsible and bring them to justice, but we don’t want to spend our money and resources in Afghanistan-“it’s not our war!” I know it’s selfish of me, but if buying Alaska from the Russians is going to help ME (maybe by lowering gas prices), I’m all for it. If Puerto Rican’s are going to want a seat in the House and get a vote that takes away from the weight of MY vote, forget about it. I hope you sense the sarcasm in my response. America really is a selfish country. We want it all and we want it all our way.
2. We are definitely trying to be. We want to be the best at everything. We want our dollar to be #1 economically; we want our military to be bigger and better than everyone else; we don’t like the fact that our kid’s test results are ‘dumber’ than the rest of the world; we don’t even like it when chins gets more gold medals than us in the Olympics. The Ancient Latin American cultures had a belief that an empire was like a living entity. Empires are born or created by the gods, fill their purpose, and then die. All great empires come to an end. Unfortunately for our Imperialistic selves, the world is kicking our trash in all these categories. The Euro is the economic strength, the Orient is out pacing us technologically, and even a small band of terrorists using superior tactics are able to keep our high-tech, stealth-operating, nuclear-carrying, Democratic-for the people military at a stalemate. We want to be the best, but we can’t seem to get it done. Good! Because, Isn’t imperialism bad? Well, there are two ways of looking at it. Most Americans would say that the America has more than every other country and therefore should “help a brother out” by ‘adopting’ everyone into the big happy American family. The problem is (and some people recognize this) that the American family is becoming more and more dysfunctional. Look at Haiti and the earthquake situation. This is the poorest country on earth. They were the poorest country before the earthquake hit. People barely have food to eat and a place to sleep. But did we care? All of a sudden an Earthquake and devastates them even more. Being the ‘socially/economically/whatever-you-want-to-call-it’ leaders of the world, we feel it is our duty as the world’s Big Brother nation to swoop in and save them from this dire state of emergency. So, we raise all this money and dump it on their doorstep (if they still have one). Well, what would have happened if we had donated all that money before the earthquake? They needed it then just as bad.
“But now there are people dying!”
They were dying before. They didn’t even have a doorstep before. We probably could have saved lives by giving them money beforehand. But it wasn’t important to us then. There wasn’t anything in it for us before. Now we’ve got to do it to save our conscience-so that we can still tell ourselves, “America is the greatest country in the world because we help”
Yes America is Imperialistic today, although we are failing at it. We want to be the best, but for all the wrong reasons and in all the wrong ways. Is imperialism bad? I don’t think so. A lot of people want to come to America, why don’t we just take America to them? Well, they don’t want the dysfunctional America we are selling, they just want the good things we have (or at least had) to offer-jobs, freedom, safety. So, what’s the deal? The problem is that we are trying to share these things, but we don’t want to lose our superiority. You can have some, but you have to become one of us. If not, then you can have SOME, but not ALL. That way we’ll still be on top. It doesn’t work that way. Is Imperialism bad? What’s the difference between imperialism and charity? We should gladly share the chance for jobs, freedom, and safety, but we have to do it whole heartedly. We cannot give with one hand while holding down with another. Is imperialism bad? Not necessarily, but being selfish is. But then again, I want the best for me and my family. After all-it’s human nature (at least here in America).
1. I would be anti Imperialist. We should’nt force any country to be a state, if they don’t want to.
2. Ya pretty much, cause were trying to take over other countries’ oil and supplies. We’re kinda a monpoly in a whole.
I would definately have to be anti-imperialism. I don’t agree with America taking the land from other smaller and weaker countries. I personally don’t think it’s fair to those smaller countries who have been trying their hardest to stay independent and for a bigger country to just come in and rule over them. No, that’s not right.
I would say that America is still an imperialist power, because if we are not, then why are we still in Iraq?
1. I think i am kind of both. How am i? well if we take over more countries we make more money… but then again america is land of the free and what not so does that just apply to our country? screw everyone else we just want to take over because we can? no i dont think so. so im just stuck.
i honestly dont know where i stand on this one. In a way we are still because we still like to go into other peoples countries and tell them how to run it. and we still rely on other countries to do our work for cheaper. You rarely see things that say made in the U.S. its always china or india or taiwan.
1 I am an anti-imperialist. i beleive that when we invade other countriesn we take away there cultrue and ability to make choices.I feel that if the country is having problems are in diar needs that yes we should help them but we should not try to make them fit into our culture, we should still let them be free and have a say in what happens to there country.
2 Yes i think they are they are constantly trying to take over third world countries and take that which is not theres.Look at the war with iraq, i know were trying to make it better but were pressing ourselves on to there culture and that in my eyes is not fair to the people of that specific country.
1. I would be an anti-imperialist, because to me taking over a weak country is wrong. Forcing them to provide us with needs that we don’t have. It is true that there are some things that we don’t have in America. But if they decide to trade for the things they need and trade us back for the things we need it’s fine.
2. I don’t really know. Because sometimes we help other countries gain freedom, and sometimes we try to take advantage of their supplies.
(A)
I think that i would have been an anti-imperialist. If we started to try to expand we would have to put up with a lot of downs that other countries have to offer. For example: (1) a lot of the other places have a huge crime rate, and such others do as well. (2) we would have to watch out for economic destruction, such as those certain states and countries are doing right now. And (3) most of those places are living in poverty, which would lead for us to go into poverty. That is what i think about this reason.
(B)
I don’t think that we are still an imperialistic state, we haven’t expanded in some years and most of the people of the U.S. are doing okay financial wise.
Imperialism, why???
because imperialism is what gave America
more land and power. All we need for America is
RESPECT, POWER and of course LAND. That’s what we are
trying to do for America to make it big & better..
so We have to do, what we gotta do….
1 i think i would be an imperialist because if you have more land then you have more room to expand and in that case you will be more powerful.
2. in my oppinion yes we are kind of an imperialist country because we have our troops over in iraq trying to take control over some of the resources that they have and also were sending people over to other countries to take some control there too.
1. I would be an anti-imperialist. I believe that stronger countries should not be able to take over less powerful countries because they are stronger. I think that we should let all other countries have their own culture and keep what makes them unique.
2. America is and forever will be a power hungry nation. We always want more. We will never be happy with what we have. We need the best technology, the best everything. But that’s ok, I live here! haha jk
1. I would have been an imperialist. Although I might not have been all in. I believe it was and still is in many cases to be imperialist. Lets think about this. Without the U.S. being like this there is a good possability that the panama canal would not have been built and shipping would be so different. And without us being imperialist still to this day what would the world do? For example in Haiti. The U.S. has taken the lead to keep the peace in that country and give it all the help it needs. Without our help this country may be in complete and utter chaos.
2.Yes we still are an imperialist power. Just like I was saying in question one. And without us being it many a people wouldnt have such a great vacation spot as hawaii to go to without a passport! I see it as our right to help other countries and maybe even have them join the United States.
Ok haslams was good were is Matich longhurst?!
1. I would be an imperialist. It is only logical that if one country ruled over all, then the language barrier would forcibly be shattered to improve communication; nationalism would die, because of no other nation to be proud of themselves; and one form of currency would be used throughout the entire world.
2. Yes, Every strong country in the world imperialises. They must have more people to fight in wars, and much more natural resorces. Since America is one of the strongest nations on Earth, it is absolutly nessasary that we imperialise and that is why we do.
1. i would be an anti-imperialist because, the imperialist take other countries freedom away. It’s like taking there life and thats wrong i think that taking another country’s freedom or anything of that sort is beyond wrong and i will not contribute to such. When our freedom is takin away its like taking everything religion, personality, beliefes just everything and im not into that!
2. Yes, i do believe that america is Imperalists today. We have many people fighting in wars and much much more resources, America is a very strong nation and always has been it always will be!
1.i would be an imperialist. i think that if we have been a strong country for long enough to make the world think were a force to be reconned with then we should be able to show that were strong and have lots of land and space to prove it. its all about being safe and keeping our country safe and the more resources we have then a better job will be done.
2. no. we dont take over countries today and we also help other countries gain their freedom.
1)i would be an imperalist because we could have ruled other countries and we would have been a great nation with a lot of power and we would have great lands and a lot of other stuff and we would be protected against any attacks.
2)no because we dont do anything to gain other countries or to take over them we just try to gain their freedom back.
In my opinion, anti-imperialism is a lot better because America is a big country that is very much established. We should not be fighting against other smaller countries for their land when we don’t need it. The imperialis view on things is more of a want, not really a need. To be a successful country, we must support others when they go into war and be there to back them up rather than being the ones to be fighting them for land. If we were to win over everyone’s lands it would just create more conflict because the country would be bigger but not necessarily more powerful. The new residents of the country would be completely against the change because they are no longer being able to govern their own country but rather follow the laws and rules of this other country that took over their land; this would immediatly result in a move for seperation.
America, to me, is only somewhat imperialist because it has the power of demand over a lot of other countries. We usually get what we want because we are bigger and we “need” their natural resources. But in other forms we are really anti-imperialist too because we support other nations and their freedom and usually do really well to let others keep their land! =]
1.It makes more sense to me to be anti-imperialist. Taking control of another country just because we are more powerful isn’t fair. If a country is well on its own, then we shouldn’t dominate only because we want to. To me, imperialism is just an excuse to feel powerful and dominant.
2. I think that the U.S is sort of imperialist. The U.S relies on other countries for supplies. I think that to other countries it might look as if they’re trying to take control.
I would be an imperialist under a few conditions. I would definately be all up for having the new lands under our power and authority, but I wouldn’t want the new land people to feel stuck or taken over, I would ask for them to have the same rights as the American’s because it’s only fair. It could also help the economy because to me it would be a working together type thing. Then again, you can’t help out a country if they don’t want help themselves.
The U.S are definately imperialist. I don’t understand this war in Iraq because at first it’s “we’re fighting because of the twin tower attack” and then all of a sudden it’s “Operation of Iraqi Freedom”?
